Who is this Singer? #2 06/18/2011
Another acetate from the collection of Rob Cochrane of the Culture Catch blog. This one is probably from the early seventies, and features some great songs from a singer who in places sounds uncannily like a slightly posher Shelagh McDonald. There are eight tracks on the acetate - Mary, Never Let the Sun Go Down in Your Anger, Alaister, Do You Want Me Here, Nobody's Gonna Steal My Car (our new favourite song title!), Another Love, Postcard and So You Think You Have a Moment. There are no other clues, except that it's a Emidisc recording blank. The songs are very much in that Joni Mitchell influenced style so beloved of female singer songwriters of the era, but none the worse for it. They were clearly recorded as demos, rather than for commercial release, but Rob's extensive ferreting around the world of rare records suggests that no commercial release ever came to from them. If you think you might be able to identify the singer, please leave a comment or get in touch. If you were that singer, even better! Add Comment Who is this Singer? 04/03/2011
Does anyone know who the singer is on this recording? It's a demo, probably from some point in the 1970s and has been preserved on an acetete from RCA Records. We rather like it - its a very summery slice of singer-songwriting, with what you could probably get away with calling an acid folk vibe to it. It's come our way from Rob Cochrane of the Culture Catch website - and he doesn't have any idea who it is, either. His guess is that it might be Catherine Howe, who recorded a couple of albums for RCA in the early seventies... though the material she released tended to be a lot poppier than this. Anyway, all we know is that the song is called Don't Hide Your Love and very lovely it is, too. Heather Whittaker/Whytock 03/28/2011

Did you used to take photgraphs of artists involved in the folk scene during the period we cover (roughly mid-60s to mid-80s)? If so, we'd love to hear from you. We hope to spice up Lost Folk Tapes with phots of the people we write about - or even ones we haven't written about yet. So whether you were a professional photographer, a keen amateur or just took snaps on your instamatic at your local folk club, please do get in touch! Canny Fettle 02/15/2011
