This is what folk musicians sound like when they’re having far too much fun. Back in 1980, Crows and Pyewackett were both recording their debut albums in a North London studio at the same time. During the sessions, Crows had recorded an unaccompanied version of the Sacred Harp song, Northfield, which would subsequently appear on their album. Crows’ Ralph Jordan takes up the story: “Ian Blake from Pyewackett and I just happened to be there on the same day to do work on our own projects. After an interesting lunch in the pub, Ian said. ‘You've only used 8 of the 16 tracks available on that track. Seems like a waste of oxide to me’. Hence the dub version. A few weeks later, I played it at a party where the rest of Crows were present... and they didn't realise it was them. What larks!”

On this recording, the original acappella version is ‘enhanced’ by Ian on clarinet, soprano sax and bass and Ralph on piano, acoustic guitar and percussion. The recording is brought to you courtesy of Ralph Jordan.
